Vault Conditions:  The sensors are located about 10 meters back in a rock tunnel excavated in a hillside. The STS-6 is emplaced in a 7-inch diameter borehole at the far end of the vault, and the STS-2 is placed on a pier.  The instrument chamber is sealed from the outside by a series of two metal doors.
