IDA Host Institutions

Project Funding and Affiliated Organizations

The Global Seismographic Network (GSN) is an international scientific program supported by the US National Science Foundation through the IRIS Consortium, a non-profit consortium of US universities and research organizations, and the US Geological Survey. GSN operations are implemented jointly by teams from Project IDA at the University of California San Diego (IRIS/IDA Network) and the US Geological Survey’s Albuquerque Seismological Laboratory (IRIS/USGS Network).

Many international organizations make use of the data for hazard warning purposes, including the U.S. Tsunami Warning Center and the Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre. A subset of IRIS/IDA stations are used by the United Nations’ CTBTO for test ban treaty monitoring purposes.
