IDA engineers are working with the station operator to restore communications with the AFAR radio in Makassar.   The radio was replaced in late 2020 after being damaged by lightning. Communications were restored after replacement but have since been lost.

2018.11.14

IDA engineers are at the station to replace the KS54000 seismometer with a Trillium 360 borehole seismometer, install new station computers, and perform maintenance on the radio and power system equipment.

Data quality for the vertical channels from the KS54000 seismometer is poor. IDA engineers are planning a station visit to replace the KS54000 seismometer with a Trillium 360 borehole seismometer.

The station operator restored data acquisition for the kapi00 digitizer on day 2018,059-20:42.

The station operator replaced the kapi00 digitizer.  However, there are still communication issues between the digitizer and station computers. IDA engineers are working with the station operator to reconfigure the connection to the digitizer.

There are communication issues between the kapi00 digitizer and station computers since day 2017,346 (Dec. 12) causing gaps in the data.

An IDA engineer visited the station to perform maintenance on the power system, replace the batteries, and station computers.

The station is back online as of day 2016,046 after the station operator visited the station and replaced the sequence power distribution box (SPD).

The station is down as of 2016,042-05:30 due to power problems caused by lightning.  The station operator has been requested to visit the station to check for damages and restore power to the station.

2015.07.28

An IDA engineer visited the station and replaced the CMG-3T with a Trillium 120PH seismometer on day 202 (July 21).  Other work included replacing the episensor strong motion detector, station computers, upgrading firmware for the radio, and replacing a failed cell in the battery array.

2014.12.09

IDA station KAPI was down from day 2014,343-19:14 to 346-15:53 due to a power outage.  While the cause of the power outage is not yet known, prolonged heavy rain may have prevented the solar system from properly charging the batteries at the station, and there were also several lightning strikes near the station.  The station operator visited the station and restored power.

2014.04.02

The station operator visited the station, replaced the faulty radio and restored telemetry.  The East-West channels from the CMG-3T seismometer are seismic again following this outage.

2014.02.24

Telemetry to the station is down since day 052 due to problems with the radio repeater. The station operator is planning a station visit with instructions from IDA engineers.

The station is back online after the station operator visited the site and restored power.

The station is down as of day 2014,034-16:32 due to unstable power at the station caused by inclement weather.  The station operator plans to visit the station when the weather improves.

The East-West channels from the CMG-3T sensor are showing an anomalously low response. Unlocking and locking the sensor and re-centering the masses have no effect on the response.

IDA engineers are onsite upgrading the telemetry and power systems. The station can expect interruptions in telemetry and data acquisition.

An IDA engineer visited the station and replaced the CMG-3T seismometer. All channels from the CMG-3T are now seismic as of day 2013,061-03:57.

The computer at IDA station KAPI continues to have problems. Data is being acquired however it is gapping. A new computer is being prepared to ship to the station.

IDA station KAPI is down due to problems with the ISP that are yet to be determined. IDA engineers are working with the station operator to determine if the computer is acquiring data.

The station was down from day 2011,221-13:47 to 2011,224-05:47 due to a power outage at the station.

The station has been upgraded to a Quanterra Q330HR system. Seismometers include KS-54000, CMG3-T, and an Episensor strong motion sensor.

All channels from the strong motion sensor are non-seismic for reasons yet to be determined. A trip to the station to replace the sensor is planned.

2008.12.03

The North-South channels from the KS-54000 seimometer were restored as of about day 2008,338 after an IDA engineer visited the station and improved the signal after repairing the KS-54000 cable and termination box. There is still a faulty circuit board in the DAS that will need replacement. While onsite an IDA engineer also improved the power system and upgraded the ISP to a Stealth PC, which restored acquisition of barometer data.

The station operator removed the faulty circuit board for the North-South channels from the KS-54000 seismometer. There is no longer excessive gapping as of about day 177-06:06.

The station is back online as of about day 060-04:44 after the station operator restored power to the station and removed a faulty RT-303 circuit board from the DAS. The East-West channels from the KS-54000 seismometer are out until the circuit board in the DAS is replaced.

The East-West channels from the KS-54000 seismometer are gapping excessively due to a faulty RT-303 circuit board in the DAS. The station operator has been requested to remove the faulty circuit board.

IDA station KAPI is back up as of about day 024-05:44 after an IDA engineer visited the station and restored power. The BBN channels from the KS-54000 seismometer were also restored after the RT-303 board in the DAS was replaced.

The RT303 circuit board in the DAS for the BBZ channels failed around day 210. The board from the BBN channels was taken out to replace the board for the BBZ channels and BBZ data acquisition resumed about day 226-05:22. Both the RT303 boards for the BBN and BBE channels need to be replaced.

The station is up after an IDA engineer visited the station and replaced a blown fuse in the Power Supply board. Power to the station remains intermittent due to rolling power outages. This continually drains the backup batteries in the UPS on a daily basis. A new backup power system is being investigated.

The station is down as of day 296 (Oct.23) due to problems with the DAS.

The station is up after IDA engineers visited the site and replaced the CMG-3T seismometer, barometer, GPS, power supplies, and station processor. The East-West channels from the KS-54000 sensor are out due to a faulty circuit board in the DAS.
